Retiring head resorts to a coastal trek

AFTER finishing her career at a school by the seaside, head teacher Maria Foxton is lining up 1,001 beaches for her retirement.

Hornsea Community Primary School head teacher Miss Foxton, 56, has stepped down after 12 years in charge of the east coast school.

She is now planning to visit 1,001 beaches around the UK for a book she plans to co-write with her brother Ray Foxton.

She said: “We are going to visit 1,001 off-the-beaten-track beaches, photograph each one and find out something quirky about them.”

It should take a couple of years to complete the book, In Search Of Mellon Udrigle – named after a remote beach in north west Scotland.

But that is not all Miss Foxton has planned for retirement following her 35-year teaching career.

She said: “I have always wanted to play the trumpet.

“Our year five and six pupils learn to play, but I only had the time for one lesson so now I’m finally going to learn.”

Miss Foxton, who was previously head of Hallgate Infant School, Cottingham, is not giving up education completely, however.

She will continue to support heads in other primaries as a school improvement partner.

Miss Foxton has overseen a major transformation at the 500-pupil Newbegin school in the past 12 years.

She said: “When I arrived it was a very run-down, tired school site.

“There were eight buildings, two of which were 1940s Horsa accommodation with maggots dropping out of the ceiling.

“We got about Pounds 2 million and rebuilt the school, we were a building site for four years. We literally rebuilt the school.”

The new head will be Linda Young, who has been head teacher at Preston Primary School.

Consistent Computer Bargains, Inc., a provider of technology solutions to nonprofit organizations, and 3X Systems, the automatic offsite backup company for SMBs, announced that they have signed a partnership giving CCB a unique position to help the nonprofit community address their backup and recovery challenges remotely and affordably.

3X Remote Backup Appliances (RBA) enable businesses to deploy a private backup cloud. The 3X RBA enables small and medium businesses (SMB) to perform their initial backup on premise using the local high speed network, then move the device offsite for continuous remote data protection and disaster recovery. Using its patent- pending locator service, the 3X RBA automatically connects to and backs up data from servers, desktops, roaming laptops and remote offices, regardless of the physical location of these endpoints or of the appliance itself. This private cloud architecture keeps data safe, private and continuously in the possession of the organization.

“In the current environment, nonprofit organizations have to find ways to do more with less money and resources,” said Chris Booth, CEO of CCB

My husband, Chris and I were sitting

My husband, Chris and I were sitting outside talking with our friends who had a house beside the cottage.

All of a sudden my golden comes running right over to us, all exited and happy. Our golden always ran to us when she had something in her mouth, never away from us. WOW, she had gone hunting, and she was proud of it.

There in her mouth, was a rabbit!!

I started to freak, of course, but then on closer inspection (from my husband) we saw it was a “plastic rabbit” out of our friend’s garden. This was one of those golden moments. My Katie Bear is gone now, I still miss her so much, and I will always miss her.

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — ICDC College announced today that it has expanded its online course offerings to include nine-month diploma programs in Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Homeland Security & Investigation and Paralegal. These diploma programs are offered in addition to the Associate’s degree programs online. ICDC College’s online programs will continue to afford students the ability to achieve an accredited college education with the convenience and flexibility of attending classes 24 hours a day, and seven days a week from anywhere in the world.

According to Marvin Gomez, Vice President of Admissions and Business Development, the Alcohol and Drug Counseling program is one of ICDC College’s most popular career choices. ICDC College is one of the few colleges to offer both a diploma and Associate’s degree program online or on campus. Mr. Gomez attributes the appeal of the program to the fact that, “Substance abuse in any form, whether drug or alcohol is both a national epidemic and cause of concern. Most of our students who are interested in the program know of at least someone, whether a family member or friend, who suffers from the disease. Our students want to make a difference in their communities by learning a career that offers not only exceptional job opportunities but saves lives as well.” For the student interested in pursuing an Alcohol and Drug Counseling career, ICDC College offers a nine-month and two-year degree program. ICDC College also has a six-month substance abuse program for Alcohol and Drug Counselors already working in the field who may need educational requirements for future certification requirements.

ICDC College’s Alcohol and Drug Counseling program exceeds the requirements established by the California Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CCBADC) for registration, various state agencies, as well as both national and international certification bodies. Upon graduation, an ICDC College Alcohol and Drug Counseling graduate may consider a multitude of employment options, including hospitals, in/out patient therapy (individual and group), drug and treatment centers, clinics, incarceration facilities, and private practice.

Country homes will always appeal

Country homes will always appeal

My role at Knight Frank is to deal in country house sales in the South East of England, specifically Kent, Surrey and Sussex. I am based in our country department in London, which deals in country house sales throughout the UK.

I work specifically with our Sevenoaks office, focusing on bringing in buyers from outside the area, namely London, the Home Counties and overseas. My role is principally effective for the top end of the market where buyers will look in a wider context.

This offers an interesting perspective on what is an uncertain property market at present. Having endured a pretty torrid 18 months up to the summer of 2009, there was a sudden upturn in the fortunes of the country house market

The glycerin needs

The glycerin needs to be removed from the container and you can use it to make soap. The biodiesel is ready to be put into your gas tank. Conceivably, you can make biodiesel for about seventy cents a gallon, which is a substantial savings when you think about what gas cost per gallon.

Biodiesel burns much cleaner than any other fuels or alternative fuels available for your car. It is the only alternative fuel that has completely passed all of the health effects testing requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. It has even passed the requirements set by the environmental protection agency allowing it to be sold as a legal motor fuel.

If you are interested in burning a fuel that is environmentally friendly and inexpensive, biodiesel may be just what you are looking for.

Benefits of social media highlighted

Waikato businesses need to get up to speed on social media – particularly smaller ones which stood to benefit most, a Hamilton digital marketing specialist says.

This week’s Waikato Chamber of Commerce b-Fit business seminar series was presented by BoldHorizons.co.nz senior brand specialist Wayne Attwell, who said more of Hamilton’s small to medium-sized businesses should use social media.

“Hamilton is not that far behind Auckland [in using social media as a marketing tool] . . . in Waikato’s larger companies people are actually being employed to run their social marketing strategies,” Mr Attwell said. “Smaller businesses are lagging behind.”

While many had a Facebook page or Twitter account, their use was unstructured. The free-to-use platforms cost time and resources which some struggled to maintain through a lack of planning

Help for 'accidental leaders'

Help for ‘accidental leaders’

0 Comments | Daily Post; Liverpool (UK), Feb 8, 2010 | by Anonymous

A PROGRAMME to develop the future leaders of the creative industry is returning for a second year.

The Accidental Leader scheme, run by Swedish company Hyper Island, aims to help executives at small digital and creative companies develop their leadership skills.

Participants last year included Jonathan Holmes, managing creative director at Liverpool-based design agency Milky Tea.

Funding from Northwest Vision and Media means companies will pay pounds 1,000 for the training, which normally costs pounds 5,000. Lynn Kelly, head of skills at Northwest Vision and Media, said: “Executives in the creative industry face a number of challenges, from implanting new interactive media to leadership and creating efficiency within their organisations. This programme has been designed to help them prepare for these challenges.

“The feedback from last year’s course was really positive, and highlights the demand for programmes like this
